AMEX cancel all my cashback

Hello Just a word of warning and some advice please.
I took out a Amex cashback platinum card in January 2013 for the 3months 5% cashback. I spent just over £2000 resulting in me receiving £102 in cashback. I understood that on the anniversary of the account the cashback would be credited to my account. I have just received my latest statement and have been told that my cashback for the past 12 months has been cancelled because I did not meet the minimum spend of £3000 for cashback. From looking into it this term/condition was introduced some time around July 2013. I am told that they can alter the terms and conditions at any time and have done and will have sent me a letter to confirm this. I have asked for evidence that they sent me this letter as I do not remember receiving this letter my questions are.

- Was this £3000 minimum spend a condition in January 2013?
- Whats the chances of me getting my £102 cashback?
- Anyone else fallen into the same trap?

There are two cash back cards:
1. Platinum Cashback Everyday Credit Card;
2. Platinum Cashback Credit Card.
If it's the first one then as I understand it there is a minimum spend on it.0 -

1. Yes it was, it has been for a long time.
2. Probably not much of a chance
3. I'd imagine so if they didn't read the literature but they don't exactly hide the clause.0 -
I had the Platinum Cashback card between August 2012 and August 2013 and I remember the £3000 minimum spend requirement (£3,001 to be precise if I remember right).
Sounds like you aimed to only spend the amount covered by the 5% promotional rate and got caught out. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for maximising benefits. I take the !!!! a bit with Amex myself - I've had four of their cards in the last year!
With any rewards card, however, you MUST check the T&Cs. I'm not saying you have to read the whole thing cover to cover (I can't believe that anyone actually does this) but glade over the important bits such as payments and conditions on rewards.
Chalk this up to experience and don't let it put you off Amex. They are generally a very good company to deal with and you can't really blame them when all they have done is abide by the T&C you agreed to when you took out the card.0 -

[1] That condition was most definitely in place in January 2013. I believe it's since been removed.
[2] Slim chances that you'll get it all back. I got a £40 goodwill gesture.
[3] It happened to my OH just this month too. An oversight on our part; that will most definitely not happen again.Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right!0 -
sorry to hear about this, but it sounds as though they will have it right..
i find Amex to be great, cs-wise, and would use the card as my first choice if i were you and get well beyond the £3k threshold. the rates have changed, so not quite such a good deal last i looked, but still worth having. and they sort any queries/problems very promptly.0
