Bt threatning legal action !

So the story is I left BT around 2 years ago to go to a different provider for my work landline , including line rental .
Ever since changing provider BT have continued to send me bills for line rental . I have phoned BT on several occasions to try and sort this out with them but to no avail . On the last call , after being put through to several different departments I was told it would be sorted (again) but he wouldn't do anything at the time of our conversation !
I have been receiving letters saying I will be cut off for a few months now but today I received one stating legal action will now be taken against me for not paying the bills I shouldn't be receiving in the first place .
Anyone been through similar and have any advise or solutions to my predicament ?

Letter to legal department issuing a written warning of desist from Harassment.Be happy...;)0

Well, have you checked your credit file? They automatically report not payment - so I'd start with that first.
How did you terminate? Did you receive (and pay) the final bill? If you did not, then the line may not have been ceased.
As to the last post, debt recovery is not harassment, especially if they can prove you owe - that's a dead end.0 -
How do I go about checking my credit file ? What will this prove ?
As far as I know my final bill was payed , all bills where payed direct debit .
The annoying thing is I can't get an answer from BT on how to rectify the situation .0 -

What will it prove? It will show you whether you already have a default against your credit record.
Don't call BT, it's a waste of time. Write to them, heading it 'Complaint', and send it RD.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Ok , so i got a letter from debt collection agency today , rhoned the agency and tried to explain the situation but to no avail . Unfortunately the guy on the other end of the phone believes i should be paying my phone line provider and BT line rental.
So BT , instead of sending invoices , threatening me with legal action and getting a debt collection agency involved , why can't somebody just phone me up , talk with me about the problem and get it all sorted ?
Looks like i'm going to court .0 -
I doubt it will go to court for under £500. Threats are cheap - but your credit file is the key, if you've been defaulted, you'll find the dates and the reason.0

Have you checked your credit file and made a written complaint to BT, as suggested a month ago?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Sorry macman , missed the bit about writing a complaint , do you have an address ?0
