Accident on renewed insurance

The term underwriter and insurer are interchangeable. I think you mean its the same broker but new insurer. That would explain why the insurer is suspicious.0

None of that makes sense. If they had the details why would the police think it was invalid?when the police came round, they said she didn't have valid insurance -she eventually got signed into her policy online and showed them the policy No. (it was the same as the one they already had) but after viewing it they said it was Ok and they left.
2 days later she got a letter saying she was an uninsured driver and they were impounding her car.(which the insurance company had already picked up) when she phoned them up to say police had already checked her insurance she was told to ignore the letter and just throw it out!
Who was the letter from? Who told her to ignore it?
I have a feeling there is more to this story I'm afraid.0 -
rs65 - you are right. I've just had a look at the insurance docs. RAC have been acting as a broker - Sabre insurance is the quote she went with. I did not know this until now.
The letter about seizing the car due to not producing valid documents - came registered delivery from Pitt street Glasgow and it was an officer from Pitt street who told her to destroy it when she phoned them.
I'm starting to wonder if this was just an admin error on the part of the police - as I asked them to recover the car at the scene to save time - my wife was being taken away in an ambulance at the time and kind of wanted to go with her.. she is fine btw, just bruised, sore and unhappy.
The invalid policy number that turned out to be OK - I've got it into my head it showed up as invalid because it was being edited. My first conspiracy theory!
No one asked about insurance or licence at the scene.
I got a phone call to tell me about the crash - I arrived about 15 mins after the crash, ambulance arrived 15 mins after me, only to tell us they were going of duty - they had been at a petrol station up the road when a driver told them about the rtc!
They put a collar on my wife's neck and waited till the "real" ambulance arrived (not sure how long 10 min..) with the police just behind.

It can take a few days for new policies to appear on the insurance database that everyone uses so on that database the old policy will have shown as expired and the new one may not have appeared yet. Normally all it takes is a phone call from the police officer at the scene to confirm that you are covered.0

I suspect the Insurers have entered the conviction date a day or two early.
Try and ring them and simply ask "Can you confirm the exact date you have recorded for my conviction".
When they give you the info thank them and put the phone down.0 -

A good place to start! I will try to get in touch with them today.

....well...
My wife doesn't want to phone the insurance yet as she is totally fed up being on the phone - and they won't talk to me..
From what I've read online, it seems some companies will increase your premium right away, (especially if points are involved) others will wait.
I'm hoping we might recoup some of the additional money on the premium from the payment for the car. The assessor came back with a really good figure - but at the end of the day it's the insurance company that writes the cheque!
Ill just have to wait and see..
I hope they hurry as their stupid 7 day limit meant I've put a £1000 deposit for the new car on my credit card.
The wife says I'll get it back - but I've heard that before...
OMG! I just got a phone call from my wife as I'm writing this! - she was doing 70 on the A82 dual cartridge-way when someone (a woman she knows who is 24 months pregnant)
overtook her, spun out and hit barrier.. everyone ok.
wife (in new car!) managed to stop and not get caught up in it, (redemption?) now shes waiting for the police for the second time in just over a week.
I'm thinking of moving to another country. Any suggestions?

It's not common for Insurers to adjust the premium for an accident or conviction after the start date of the Insurance for incidents that occured after the start date. It's quite the opposite in that it's highly unusual and I suspect the RAC have entered the wrong date.
Most Insurers will speak to you if when you get through your wife answers the security questions and gives her permission for you to speak to them.
You need to speak to Customer Services and not claims for this matter.0 -
I'm glad she wasn't caught up in the second accident - that sounds quite nasty!
Their tactics sound pretty heavy handed, but it sounds like there's light at the end of the tunnel.
It's good the police are prosecuting for careless driving on the streets, dodgy U turns are a problem around here too.0
