I'm very lucky, my hubby is a cabinet maker/joiner (now retired). We've had 6 different homes but he's only made one kitchen (the first one which we didn't live in until we got married, took us 3 years to do up lol). We've had fitted wardrobes in all except one which was a new house with its own fitted wardrobes. He's doing the ones in our latest house at the mo. He's made dressing tables too, the only one we've moved with is the one I've got now - curved drawers with shortwood carvings.

Funnily enough the first thing we ever bought was dining table and chairs (G Plan). It's still going strong after 46 years but the chairs have been recovered.
He's made coffee tables and table for my sewing machine which has now been recycled to a desk in my craft room.

Here are some things that hubby made.

Excuse the dog and the floors, we are still working on the property.

    Wow some beautiful pieces waterlily.
  • I'm very interested in this thread. I have been thinking about getting some custom furniture made as I hope to do a loft conversion soon. One of the additional rooms I will end up with, I want to use as a study/spare bedroom. To make this work, I would love a Studybed, but the prices seem ridiculous!

What would you expect to pay for this to be custom made?

And in what wood? I'd like it to be durable, but not too expensive. I like the look of the light oak but maybe pine would be cheaper?
  • Are you married? Please, please don't be. And please, please be very interested in a much older woman who shares your values :o :rotfl:

Well I was hoping that someone would respond to my post with ideas of where to buy solid wood for less.... I wasn't really expecting marriage proposals!

I am already married, though how I managed to keep her after taking 12 months to build our first kitchen (all from scratch) I do not know.
