Hi Guys,
I've just got an mp3 player, but I don't have a clue how to work it!! I want to copy some of my CD collection over onto it, but I can't find anywhere in the instructions that says how to do it. I've googled it, and it seems that I have to 'rip' the CDs but again, I can't make head nor tail of it!
I would really appreciate it if somebody could point me in the right direction!!
Cheers

If you have a PC, it probably has Windows Media Player. Windows Media Player has a function within to convert CD Audio to .mp3 files. You can then transfer those files to the mp3 player.
It difficult to give exact instructions without having knowledge of your equipment.0 -
Load CD into computer.
Windows Media Player should open. If not, open it.
There's a button called 'Rip' at the top. Press that and it copies your CD to the harddrive in WMA format. (You can set it to 'rip' it as MP3, but they take up more space.
You will find your tracks in 'My Music' folder, normally in a folder with the artist's name, but sometimes with the date. Open the folder, select the tracks you want to load, and click ' Copy these files'. This should give you a list of places to copy to - assuming your MP3 is already plugged into your PC, you can choose to copy them to there. If it's not shown, click 'Cancel', insert it and try again.

If you are going to follow Backbiter's concise instructions....make sure that your player can read .wma files.
Also, some CD players can play raw .mp3 files. Useful if you want to create a CD with ten to twelve albums worth of music. Only Philips CD players play .wma files. Some DVD players can play them also.
Ripping to .mp3 doesn't take up more space. Ripping to .mp3 at a higher bandwidth than you ripped to .wma takes up more space.
MP3 gives you greater compatibility.0 -
Ok, I'm really confused now! When I go into Windows media player I can't find the rip button....and thats thrown me completely!

can't you use itunes? Its really easy to import and organise tracks. Windows media player is awfully clumsy IMHO.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

She still has to learn how to convert to .mp3.
Trying to keep things simple.
Suggesting new programs might confuse the poor girl.
So let's try what she already has, before moving on.
Are you using Windows XP/Media Player 10?0 -
I was told that when you drag and drop in media player and have MP3 connected, media player automatically converts to MP3 format, this isn't correct then?0

I know what you are telling the op to do is correct but getting the music off the cd into the computer can be confusing at first..
my media player doesnt have a "rip" button either...
I have a tab on the right hand side that says "copy from cd"
once this is clicked only then do I see the copy options.
I think once you have your music saved onto your computer in a folder, then you should be able to just drag and drop the tracks into your mp3 player like any other file..
Try keep it simple at first, just do 1 track.
if that works then experiment with albums and folders..“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0
