Moving house:easier/quicker to start supply with one already there?

Dear All,
I'm moving in a week tomorrow. I've managed to end my old supply (long story - mega hassle!).
So I'm not bothered or keen to use them.
I do know the seller currently has E-on, it is easier/quicker to just set up with them and then move in future should i want to?
Am i right that I would have to "switch" supply from E-on even though I'm not the current customer? It's as though it's bonded to the house until you change? Correct?
I just want to set up a new supply with minimum hassle just now - I think sometimes they need a weeks notice.
Any help/advice much appreciated. I've got so much on just now - full time job, studying for a degree in the evenings and it's been so stressful just transferring other things (broadband etc).
Cheers,
Hobbin.

Hi Hobbin Rood,
So is the house you're buying supplied by E.ON?
If this is the case you need to let us know when you move in and take responsibility of the property, we can then set up an account for you using the meter reads from your move in day.
You might want to change supplier straight away, so you'd just need to go to your preferred supplier and arrange them to take this. It takes about 4-6 weeks to change supplier.
We would normally say to have a look on the comparison sites.
Or you may wish to stay with us and have a look at the tariffs etc. You can do this when you let us know you move in, or lot's of info on the website.
Hope this helps a little.
Helena

Hi Helena,
Thanks for the advice. Yes, the lady who is selling the house is an E.On customer just now.
So I don't need to give you forward notice, I could just phone you on the day itself? this is already agreed (next Friday 28th Feb).
If you could assist in any way beforehand I could PM you any details you'd need.
I'd like a duel fuel deal d/d online if this is the cheapest.
Many thanks,

No probs
You can let us know now if you like, but we can't start much as we need the meter readings from the day you move in.
If you like, you can fill in the moving home form online, set up an online account and set up your Direct Debit, pick a tariff from there.
The moving home team details are on there as well, if you get stuck.
But by all means send your details to me if you like and I'll be more than happy to help, we don't have PM on here but you can use the email address in my profile page

Hi Helena,
I'll take up your kind offer of assistance - will send an email with the address details first of all.
It'd be good if you could indeed confirm the property is supplied by E-on at present! At least I'll know then the set-up can be easily done.
Then maybe you could assist setting up the account for me as you've detailed it?
Cheers and check your email inbox soon. Sending it to the one on your profile page - WebForumAdvisors @ your company etc.
