I'm sure this game was called something like Eastern Front, the key point was that unusually for such a game you could oversee the Nazis as well as the Allies.

That could be it, it seems to be the only strategy based WWII game that allows users to play from a German perspective.

axis and allies is a good ww2 game. You can'#t play as germans as far as I can rememebr
  • Could also be one of the Hearts of Iron games from Paradox although they don't have 3D graphics, it's more of a strategy game.

I think you may be thinking of Company of Heroes?

I'm wondering if I'm wrong about it being in the C&C series, however users could command German or Russian soldiers in the Eastern front or German and Bristish/American forces on the D-Day landings.
It could be Company of Heroes, and it probably is if you played this around 2006 onwards. Company of Heroes is fully 3D and you can move the camera around and zoom in and out, if that helps.

If you played the game earlier than that you may be thinking of Sudden Strike. Someone has already mentioned Blitzkrieg, which was for all intents and purposes in the Sudden Strike series. Sudden Strike has an isometric camera so you couldn't spin it around. It also didn't have base building elements in it, whilst Company of Heroes did.

I think it's probably one of those two game series. Hopefully with the differences I've mentioned in the way that the games are played you'll be able to pick which one it is.

    Hi All,

Does anyone remember a C&C strategy game for the PC that was set during World War 2 (The D-Day landing I think), and the user could be Allies or Germans? What was the name of this game and can it be downloaded for free?

    Thanks.

Thank you for reminding me about one of the best games ever made!
I used to love that game.
Tesla coils, killer dogs, that woman assassin who was hard as nails.
    A great game!
