Abbey/Santander application - Delay

Hi,
Me and my partner are FTBs and are applying with Santander directly over the phone (we did have L&C as our brokers but they lied and told us the Santander offer we wanted to apply for was being withdrawn from the market!).
I called them on 6th March and uploaded our pay slips to the MAT system that night. It took until yesterday for someone just to call us to arrange the next phonecall, which will be the mortgage interview. That won't be until Friday 21st, which I think is utterly ridiculous! As far as I'm aware, as long as the interview goes OK an application will then be posted to us, we'll then have to post this back and THEN it'll go to underwriters, is this correct? I'm not even sure what the point of the mortgage interview is - we've been credit checked, supplied wage slips and completed a form confirming our outgoings. I assume we'll provide bank statements with the application, but this will be AFTER the hour long phonecall?!
Has anyone else applied directly over the phone, and can shed some light on the process for me? I'm taking a risk and have instructed solicitors already, because I just can't keep our vendor waiting for Santander's convoluted process to run through the motions before getting the legal stuff anyway.
I'm a nervous wreck! Good for the ol' weightloss though as my metabolism is running at about 5x its normal speed!DS - 08/15

You might be waiting a while because there's currently a 15.9 day wait from receipt of full application to agreement of mortgage (including valuation) I went via a broker and she was fantastic and made sure all docs were with them at the aip stage so there were no queries. We got our aip on 4th march and just been told today our full application has been agreed subject to valuation which will be instructed Monday. If you don't have your interview until 21st it might be worth you going via a broker so you can get something in quicker than this? Just a suggestion as that seems quite a long time to wait before even putting the application in0 -
Thanks.
I thought about it but just pestered them on the phone and now have a face to face application next Tuesday. This will hopefully be far quicker as the interview and application can get done in one go. I don't mind a little wait before valuation, as at least I can validly explain to the sellers that the delay is with Santander. I feel a little like the interview delay isn't a great excuse, despite having an AIP in place and not being able to do much about it!
Fingers crossed that all's well on Tuesday. We'll see what the timescales look like after that :SDS - 08/15

That's amazing - congrats! I'm hoping for a smooth ride once we've had the interview on Tuesday. I'm contemplating getting a homebuyer survey booked in just to show the vendor that we're serious, but I'd prefer to wait for mortgage approval, at least subject to survey, before taking the risk. I'm just getting very impatient with it all!DS - 08/15

Hang in there. I have been a nervous wreak for months. I have been obsessed with every detail of our finances and credit reports making sure everything is perfect .
I have been driving my poor husband mad making sure the purchase of our home goes without a hitch , and finally we are almost there .
In another few weeks I can finally relax again :j0 -

Hi,
Abbey were taking too long with us and we had planned to get the Homebuyers Report with them which was £450. Abbey's HTB mortgage offers a free valuation however. In the end I paid £350 for a private Homebuyers Report and switched down to the free valuation with Abbey. I arranged it through a company I found online and the survey was done 2 days later. Was still waiting for Abbey to come back to me but at least the vendor knew I was not messing them about. And it saved me £100.0 -

Hi, yeah I was quite close to doing this just to show willing. I will still get a separate homebuyers just for peace of mind. However, after getting myself in a bit of a tizz on Saturday I rang the EA who were brilliant. They rang the vendor just to see where she was at and although she can move out whenever necessary to temporary accom. she hasn't found her own place yet. She also said to tell us not to worry and she understands these things take time, so it looks like we've got ourselves a lovely understanding seller (who is probably grateful for some extra time!). The house is off the market, so no gazumping issues either.
Mortgage interview tomorrow. I feel sick! Spoke to the mortgage adviser today who said the underwriters take about 3 days, but from what I've read I sincerely doubt that - fingers crossed though!DS - 08/15

Congrats! I'm so jealous
Mortgage interview went as well as can be expected. No credit check issues, which we didn't expect but it's still nerve wracking having your credit file interrogated! Just got the nice slow wait for the underwriters now. The mortgage advisor said Friday, but we'll be surprised if it's not more like NEXT Friday!DS - 08/15
