Anaheim summer 2015

I'm looking to book a summer (school holidays) 2 week break for 5 to Anaheim so we can go to Disney and have a base for some sight seeing.
There are myself and dh and 3 dd's ages 17, 9 and 3, ideally I would like flights, accomodation and car hire for about 3.5k but I'm struggling to find anything in that budget, if anyone has any tips for websites or just how this might be do able I would be really greatful, TIA

If you're OK with fairly basic motel accomodation then try Motel 6, or a bit more upmarket Super 8. These are safe, clean and comfortable but only have basic facilities (for example, no restaurant but there are usually some nearby). Hope this helps a bit.

We stayed at Knotts Berry Farm Resort, it was a great hotel but was quite away from other areas. LA is so huge it was difficult to get around even though we had a car. If you want to do Disney I would suggest staying nearer to the Disney site as we didn't bother and just went to Knotts Berry Farm.

No disrespect intended to the previous poster, but if you're happy with doing a bit of driving then a motel further away from Disney might be less expensive and also provide you with better sight-seeing options.

For example, Chino and San Dimas are each about 24 miles from Anaheim, and Ontario is just under 30 miles. (That's the city of Ontario in California, not the Canadian province! :) ) Or perhaps somewhere on the coast such as Huntington Beach.

You don't have to use the freeways, but the surface roads tend to be slower due to having frequent junctions with traffic lights.

Can I suggest that two weeks in Los Angeles is probably going to be far too long and if you're up to it then a road trip might be worth considering - for example to Las Vegas and Zion National Park in southwestern Utah, or alternatively stay in California and do the Pacific Coast Highway, San Francisco and Yosemite National Park. You might want to have a look on Google Maps to see how far away these places are if you're not familiar with the geography.

Not sure I agree that Buena Park(knotts berry) and Disney are a long way apart. They are about 6 miles apart and most of that is freeway, so about 10 minutes by car.

I have stayed in Anaheim for trips to Disney. However I wouldn't want to spend the whole two weeks there. When I've been there previously we've twin or three centred to see other places. Anaheim is great for Disney, but I'd look at where else you want to go, put it all on a map and then plan the best places to stay.

Loads of cheaper hotels in Anaheim less than 10 mins away.. from Double tree on chapman near the block to crowne plaza on Chapman.
TO the really cheap motels along the strip..

Like others 2 weeks there seems overkill when you have the whole of California to see from to Yosemite to Sequilla to SFran Monterrey. all the way down the PCH.

Not suggesting you see it all in one go either :D

LOL seems like someone else put pretty much what I had written earlier.. 2 people saying the same thing must be right!
