hi all - sorry if this has been covered elsewhere.
I have just received 2 speeding tickets in the post and was thinking about going to court on it - please no "well you shouldn't have been speeding" type responses if possible!
I havent been told what I will be getting if I accept the tickets yet but I imagine it will be 3 points per offense and £60 fine per offense?
My question is, if I go to court and lose what are the possible outcomes? I imagine they will make me pay costs/increase the fine but can they also give me more penalty points?
thanks

Do you have any defence if you do take it to court.
If not, what is the point.
I would expect you to get what you get on the day.
They could just as easily give you £60 fine and 3 points for the first one and then because you haven't learned your lesson, then 6 points and a £500 fine.
I would just accept the tickets and then do 2 things,. Pay up and slow down.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
It's £100 now? Didn't it rise from £60 on 15 August 2013?0

If you've got cast-iron mitigating circumstances, then yes you could try your luck at court. I don't know, maybe "My child was choking, and I panicked and drove him to hospital because I though it would be quicker than calling an ambulance". Even then you'd have to provide proof ( A&E records etc. ).
If you go to court and lose, then yes you will probably be worse off. I must admit I don't know if they can issue more points than a standard speeding rap, but you will almost certainly get a bigger fine + court costs. For the majority of cases ( yes, I was speeding, it's a fair cop guv ), just take the points + fine and be more careful in future.0 -
As well as moving this to the 'Parking tickets & fines' sub-forum, try posting for informed advice in the pepipoo forum for speeding tickets:

Depends on your speed but yes potentially you can get more than 3 points if you got to court rather than accepting the fixed penalty. See the sentencing guidelines here
http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=24748
Note that the fixed penalty has gone up from £60 to £100 - beyond that the calculator is still accurate.
Also note that the calculator above does not factor in prosecution costs. If you're convicted after a trial the prosecution will ask for around £600 in costs - more (potentially a lot more) if you challenge the accuracy of the device and they call expensive expert witnesses.
Without knowing what defence you think you have it's impossible to say whether it's worth the risk - but it's certainly not a route to go down unless you're sure you know what you're doing.0 -
