in Credit cards
Hi all,
My new job means I have to travel regularly, sometimes to Europe. I have to use a personal credit card for work expenses, and claim back the money. So basically, I'm after a card that allows me to spend abroad without charges.
I would like to get the Halifax Clarity card, however, I kind have an existing Halifax card. Kind of, because I had the card, but when Halifax wrote to say they wanted permission to change the rates, I objected, so they agreed that I could keep paying off the balance at the original rate, but the card has since expired.
So the question is, can I apply for the Clarity card? Using the eligibility checker on MSE, I have a 30% chance of getting the Post Office card, so it looks like I'm stuck

If it's for work then your employer should cover all of the costs so a low fee card shouldn't be of great advantage.
I wouldn't have thought halifax would give you a clarity but maybe worth an application if you haven't made any others recently.0 -
I agree with the above post. If your employer is paying for it, I'd be looking for the best reward card for you not whats cheapest to use.0

Depending on how quick your employer settles expenses, you might be better off using 0% on purchases cards.0

The problem is that the charges on the card I'm currently using don't show up for a while, sometimes a few weeks after the transactions. Plus, the expenses system doesn't allow me to add charges, just have to state an exchange rate that hopefully covers the charges as well.
In any case thanks, I'll see what happens if I apply for the Halifax card.0 -

In my opinion, you need a card that will SOLELY be used for work expenses. You'd then submit your expenses form with the statement attached (blank out card numbers etc). They'd then pay you whatever the statement said. No second-guessing exchange rates, and "hoping" you're not out of pocket!
I still think you'd be better with a 0% on purchases card.0 -

They paid you back at least,so you weren't out of pocket, right?0 -

A business still using employees to make their cash flow look better, not a great way if doing business though depends on teh amounts and payment terms really.0 -
I believe Halifax now automatically refuse you more than 1 type of card.
So if you have an existing Halifax card, they will turn you down for the Clarity.
