I've been looking on the web for an answer but I'm reading conflicting information. Is this a virus or malware or nothing to worry about?
On my brother's username these popped up in new window. The following addresses were in the address bar but the page was blank.

fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/hellocdn.html?v=1

and

fbcdn-svideo-a-a.akamaihd.net/hvideo-ak-prn1/hellocdn.html?v=1

I think I got the 2nd one right, it's the same as the 1st but with video instead of photo.

I was fixing other problems from something my brother downloaded, while in the middle of doing this, the 2nd link popped up. I looked at the browser history and saw the 1st had popped up while my brother was using the internet.

I think it's something to do with Facebook messenger which I have now uninstalled but I don't know enough about this to know if this is enough.
Please help!

  • I thought I would mention that the problems I am in the middle of fixing was getting rid of search.gol, mysearchdial and nation search engines. Looking at the history, I'm sure they have been downloaded with Scratch. Nothing else has been downloaded since those search engines started appearing. I've sorted search.gol and mysearchdial and I'm in the middle of sorting out nation search engine... which I think is done.

It's pretending to be CDN caching for Facebook and akami. It isn't either, which means it's nefarious.

A colleague had these pop-ups on his computer recently but after removing Facebook messenger everything now appears to be ok, and a scan with Malwarebytes and Hitman Pro didn't uncover any hidden nasties.

There seems to be some difference of opinion on Google as to whether this is malware or not, but both sites are being shown as clean by Virus Total.
