How to start PPI reclaims

On behalf of my fianc!e, I said I'd look into trying to reclaim PPi.

Brief background, when is met him was thousands of pounds in debt, with several different companies. Barclaycard, RBS, Vodafone, abbey etc, all in all about 10 different companies.

He was running scared, and trying his best to hide it from me. Needless to say he eventually confessed and now all debts have either been repaid in full, or in the process of being repaid.

Now to try and reclaim PPI.

I've been reading through the guides, but am a bit overwhelmed by it all to be honest.

So we have some statements here for the like of barclaycard, which clearly show PPI. We don't have the agreements though. Do we have to contact barclaycard for a copy of the agreement first, using the template letter, or can we just complete the form on the Barclays website even if we don't have the policy number?

Comments

  • So the first step is getting a copy of the agreement? I've found the template letter, so that's easy enough.

I can ignore the bits about some companies (Barclays for eg) making it easier to reclaim then, and ignore the forms that can be found when looking at their websites?

Next question - what address do I write to. I'm guessing that's the customer services address on the back of the statement?

  • Hello,

I've just received a letter from HSBC who I haven't banked with for about 4 years. I had run up a couple of thousand on a credit card I took out with them around 2005/2006. Got into further debt with them when I missed payments etc, so thought I'd try my luck to see if I could reclaim any potential PPI.

They've said "here's a list of policy numbers relating to the PPI policies you have held." They're now asking me to write back with reasons why I feel I was mis-sold. It was so long ago I can't ever remember taking out PPI. Is there a template letter I could use? Or do I need to complete the Ombudsman questionnaire next and send that to HSBC?

All help will be gratefully received.

    Thank you all x

What does he think has been done wrong, when and by who?

The answer will dictate your next steps.

Do you mean you defaulted and now hope to "reclaim" what you didn't pay?
