Been paid off, would I be entitled to housing benefit with claiming job seekers?

My friend has been paid off as there isn't enough work coming in.He is going to put a claim through for job seekers allowance tomorrow.
would he be entitled to housing benefit to cover his rent whilst claiming job seekers allowance?
Also to claim job seekers allowance would it be a case of popping into jobcentre without an appointment or is it done over the phone these days?
He is single,no kids, has a 1 bedroom property which belongs to the housing association.
Any help/advice would be appreciated.

You can apply for JSA either online or via phone details of how do both ways are listed on the direct.gov website.
Housing benefit is administered by the local council. He should contact them to apply His entitlement to housing benefit may be affected by capital depending on how much he has been "paid off" and any other savings /capital/property. Savings over £6000 will affect entitlement (for working age claimants)Spelling courtesy of the whims of auto correct...

Hi he has no savings/capital/property/assets.Unsure of how much he has been paid off?
Regarding housing benefit,he would have to see housing benefit office separately I take it?0 -
Get him to call your local council to apply for Housing Benefit /Council Tax support. This is administered by the council unlike JSA which is dealt with by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).Spelling courtesy of the whims of auto correct...

He may be able to download the HB and CT forms from the Council web-site.
I think that HB is paid from the Monday after the claim is made, so he needs to get that in by Friday if possible; even if he goes back later with some documentation. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Hi unfortunately he has no printer, yes he will definitely put claim through tomorrow, shall also ring housing benefit office in the morning to see if he should be popping in to start a housing benefit claim.0

You claim Housing Benefit through the Job Centre when you claim JSA. They send your claim to the council.
