Mis-sold package account

Hi,
I bank with RBS. When I started I had an R21 account which I opened in about July 2002 before I went to uni. When I turned 21 in March 2005 I was told my account had to be changed to a Royalties account (for which there was a £7.95 a month charge). After a couple of years of not using the benefits I asked to have it changed to a standard account with no fee but as I was in my overdraft I was told I would lose that facility if I was to change so kept the account until I started to work for the bank myself in March 2011. I believe I accumulated 6 years of payments which I did not have to as a standard non paying account would have met my needs. I have never kept my bank statements but can access online statements going back 7 years which covers part of this period. What evidence do I need to present and have I got a case?
In addition to this I believe that due to the monthly charge I wa paying, I ended up exceeding my overdraft limit and being charged a fee for this too. Would this also mean I have a case to reclaim back these charges if I can find them in my statement? Also if there are instances outside of the 7 year period of statement that I can access is there another way of gaining the evidence?
Sorry for the long post but I have no clue what I am doing!!!!
Thanks in advance

Packaged accounts do often have overdraft terms that can be more beneficial than non-packaged accounts. So, was this the case? What evidence do I need to present and have I got a case?
You dont really need any evidence. You just complain the member of staff gave you misinformation. They will see what they have and check your eligibility for the package options and see if it was likely to be better for you. Hopefully, you dont work with that member of staff now otherwise that could be very uncomfortable. In addition to this I believe that due to the monthly charge I wa paying, I ended up exceeding my overdraft limit and being charged a fee for this too. Possibly but unlikely. It would depend on the charges that would have been made on the alternative. You can mention it but it is possible that the alternative costs more and you could find it works against you. As a staff member, you must be able to find out the differences and work it out roughly.Sorry for the long post but I have no clue what I am doing!!!!
That is a bit worrying for someone that works for a bank.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. I no longer work there. Hated the philosophy of trying to sell products rather than advise but that is another story.
I was told that I would not have the overdraft facility on a non paying account and that as I was in my overdraft I would not be able to transfer it across. When I worked there I found out that what you say is true which is that the overdraft facility is available on both but the rate was slightly more favourable on the paying account. However what I was told about downgrading my account was not true as I did it for customers when I worked there.
As for the member of staff ... I do not even remember going into the bank to have this done!!! From what I remember, and I am going back nearly 9 years, I just got a letter in the post informing me that this would be the case! That is why I am a little aggrieved by this!!! This is my belief because at the time I did not live within 40 odd miles of my nearest branch, worked Monday to Friday and did not have a car to get there so there was next to no way I would have gone in and done this in person.
I have downloaded the template letter from the site and will complete it and send it in. I am just angry that as a loyal customer I was taken advantage of.0 -

I know what you mean. I am ex bank but back in the days of wooden paneling and staff being required to sit the chartered institute of banking exams. Its horrible now
Make the complaint as you have done it here. Avoid using the template in raw form. Personalised complaints tend to have a higher success rate. So, make it look less like a template.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Thanks for your views. I agree that the template is the raw basis but I need my personal points to be heard so will adapt it to my situation. Will post updates as to how I get on. Cheers0

I sent a letter using Martin's template letter to my husbands bank, the Halifax, to complain about his packaged account on 10th February. Yesterday he discovered £817 had been credited to his account!! A letter arrived today explaining their decision and that they agreed the account had been missold!! Thanks Martin0
