Running a Santander along with a Halifax Account

Hi All,

I have a Halifax account and I currently avail of the £5 per month reward, I want to setup the Santander 123 Account and get some of the benefits from it too. If I setup the Santander Account I need to close the Halifax Account - what are my options?

I'm thinking of setting up a small account with a poor bank that offers nothing, have my salary paid in here once and then close it down - would this work?

Thanks

why would you need to close the Halifax account ?

you could just open a new Santander account and use it along side your existing halifax account. Leaving 2 dd's to claim the £5 and moving any that gain cashback to the 123 account.

Strangely enough it said that at the time when I applied but I opened the account through topcashback anyway. Didn't choose to switch and got the cashback.

    Love cashback, money for nothing
    Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

    Savings target June 18 - £22,281.99 / £25,000

So if I just setup the account as normal I can avail of the cash back?

Cashback is never guaranteed, and the T&Cs on the Santander offer are clear. No harm though trying to get it - worst base it that you won't get it, best case that you might get it in 4-7 months.

there are no guarantees, but it worked for me, took about 4 months to get it.

its upto you if you want to risk it or not, but then you take that chance with any cashback offers anyways

if you did want to use the switching services, then you can just open a new account, transfer some direct debits to it, then switch that to santander, i did something similar for halifax (but you do need to use the switching service to get the offer for that)

You only need to use the switching offer for Halifax if you want the £100 joining bonus. You don't need to switch to get the monthly fivers.
