Hi I found mbna really good to deal with. I emailed them then phoned them went through income and expenditure and they froze interest straight away also accepted 22 % settlement after 5 months.
Patience is required it is a long process.

  • Ah thats very grown up of your kids Bb. Nice. I like that.

And the fact the £80 a month we charge for keep is very much in their interest to keep going :D One of them started to look at renting a flat until she saw the costs.

No, seriously we sat down with them to discuss so they are fully aware of what is happening.

I think our ongoing struggles with credit cards are the reason neither have them have them and are 22 now. Even when they were at Uni. They see some of their Uni mates with £4-5k of card/overdraft debt on top of the 20k+ student loans and they haven't even started their working lives yet. Madness.
  • haha yes that'll do it Bb!

Well I had another letter yesterday from Natwest that echoed the previous one from Mbna. They will not charge default or late payment fees for a month but interest will continue to accrue and I am to meet minimum payments

Shinner, hopefully when stepchange contact everyone things will sort themselves out creditor wise. I'm quite prepared to gain a bit of debt (charges interest etc) in order for it to ultimately come down, as it is a long road (thanks puzzcat)

On a very positive note though, I am in London for a weekend away with the wife. All three kiddies are being looked after and we are pretending to not have a care in the world. Its a previously paid for unaffordable luxury (dear oh dear) and we are off to see the Lion King tonight. I did cancel the hotel and stay with an aunt to save what I could. but no use feeling guilty about it now.

    anyhoo...Cheers to a good weekend!

Hope the trip to the smoke was good. I lived there for 10 years back in my early working years. Loved the thought of working in London but started to hate the place at the end. Visit every once in a while and still have plenty of friends there, but happily encamped back up North now :www:

My DMP is now active, letters went out to creditors yesterday !! So now we begin. She did say I could still make the March 10th run if I manually paid this month, but I said to start 1st April as it gets me past another pay day, with 4 tokens in between just to top up the slush fund.
  • Just saying hi to keep this diary going! Theatre was cracking as was spending two days with just the wife.

Ive been ill this week but didnt stay off work as i dont get sick pay. Grrrr. Stepchange dmp nearly in place. Just waiting on lloyds to take me off the joint account. I will be so much happier when it starts as i feel no different to a month ago.

  • Morning all. Cracking morning it is too. Been for nine holes of golf at the crack of dawn today (6.20) and had a good round. Been messing with the kids and now about to eat breakie.

Then im taking my head out the sand and working out what monies i have left for the month. We have our babies christening next sunday. Im very worried how much that will cost us. The 'party' afterwards is at a free function room but we have to provide some nibbles.

    Morning pd,
You must be a dedicated golfer to be up that early on a sat morning!!
Once you have sat and worked out your budget and what cash is available for the christening you will feel more in control. Do you have access to a cash and carry where you are? Iceland do cheap nibbles like 30 samosas and onion bhaji for £3 for example.. I know cooking from scratch is favoured but isn't cheaper if you don't already have the ingredients in!!
Do you have to supply alcohol as well?

Hi puzz, i love getting to golf early as it beats the crowds and can get home without too much guilt from the family! Haha. The function room has a bar and luckily ive never been one to leave money behind it for everyone else.

I like the idea of something simple like a bulk order of pasties or cooke ham rolls or something. Probably end up doing typical buffet. Was thinking of asking people to bring a plate of food, eg one chilli, one sandwiches one pasties etc
