Credit card balance transfer, advice please

I have a credit card with Nationwide which is empty and a Barclay card with £992 owing.
I want to clear this asap as we want to save for a deposit for a house but at the moment I am paying around 15% interest.
Should I try my own banks first to see if they will give me a better deal before I apply online? I have accounts with Halifax (although rarely used these days) and Nationwide.

I would first contact nationwide to see if they have any balance transfer offers available to you as an existing card holder.
If not then I would try applying for whichever new card you would prefer (you might want to try the online tool to get an indication as to how likely you are to be accepted by various card companies - http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/balance-transfer-credit-cards#eligibilityA smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
