Wedding 2015 nothing booked getting stressed!

Options
Hi all ,
This maybe more of a panic and rant tbh . I got engaged last year and we decided it would be 2015 and even picked a day yet no booking yet :( originally we were going to do basic things by now and then do more after a big hol we have in April as we booked this before getting engaged.
Now since we got engaged loads of mates have too and they have booked their weddings for next year and the year after and I am starting to get upset about it , fianc! is calm and keeps telling me we have time .
Another thing is since last year my finances have changed so cost is an issue . All I want is to marry my fianc! and I know it will be stressful but it feels like I'm getting no where !
Has anyone felt like this ?
How did they cope ?

Sorry longwinded just trying to get it all out there lol

Firstly CALM DOWN! Its a wedding, its about vows between two people, not a race or contest between friends (watch Bride Wars if you need a hint).

Secondly, have you set a date and budget? If not, that is the first thing to do. Sit down with your OH and think about what you want and what you don't want - this is a personal thing so what one person loves, another wouldn't have.

Once you have a basic list of what you definitely want and don't want, then its time to research suppliers, venues etc. If you have a date in mind, then it would be good to get the major ones out of the way first (venue, celebrant/priest, catering, photography are usually the ones to get booked first).

But most importantly, don't forget that it is a day to celebrate the coming together of two people - you don't need a big party if you're short on cash, or the favours (most get left on the table anyway) or most of the things 21st Century brides have; if you can afford it, great, but if you can't, then do without. There's always a work around, and thats what the board here is for.

Hope that's a bit informative :) And don't forget to breathe!

    Niki :)

On don't tell the bride they manage to organise everything within 3 weeks, so don't panic!

Decide on a rough date and a budget you can stick to and take it from there.

We booked our venue etc in November and I haven't done a single other thing until this week, and our wedding is in May. No dress, no shoes, no invites, no guest list, nadda. but it will all come together!!

There's no need to panic at all if it's 2015.

I'm getting married in March and we didn't book anything until September/October time.

As long as you get a venue booked within a couple of months or so you still have plenty of time.
  • Don't worry, we were originally king to get married next year and brought it forward a year until this October. We still have loads of time to book/pay/organise/discuss everything. Try to calm down. If this is what you're like now, you'll have exploded before the big day!!! x

  • Spend a little time thinking about the things that would make it personal to the two of you, and the people you would like to have there on the special day. Then think about what sort of wedding you would both like, the place, the colours, the music, the flowers/decorations. Time and time again I find it tends to be the Bride who says I want this or that, or I'm doing/having this or that, there seems to be little spoken about the other person involved in it all!! Stand back and breathe, then take a step forward and try to get some stuff down on paper, and what ever you do come back on here and ask as many questions as you like, there are some very friendly helpful people who will give you good advice. Remember it can be fun if you let it hahaha!! x

I'm in the same boat- getting married in 2015 with nothing booked and friends of mine have recently got engaged and already have the venue and photographer booked.

Personally I think it's only worth booking so far in advance if you have a very clear idea of what you want. Popular venues, photographers and bakers can be booked up two years in advance but they will generally state this on their website.

If you're flexible though and not really sure what you want I think it would be silly to do anything now. I have changed my mind loads of times so we're not booking anything until a year before. And even then that will probably just be the venue.

At the moment we're just saving up and noting down ideas. I did have a few discussions with suppliers to get an idea of how much things cost and some of them were pretty disinterested when I said I wasn't getting married until 2015!

We got engaged in January, and set the date for May this year, giving us 4 months to sort it all.

One week later we had booked the registration office and been in to give notice, have our interviews etc.

I have my dress, my daughter has her dress, we have bought the wedding rings, he needs to get a suit and my son is wearing the one he had for his prom last year.

We are not having a reception or a night do, wedding is just going to be small and intimate, with a meal at a local pub afterwards, and we have booked a couple of cheap nights in a Premier Inn, so we have the meal, hop on a train and disappear for a couple of days.

But.... the week afterwards we are at an event with a lot of friends, and no doubt many drinks will be consumed then, plus we are planning on taking some kind of cake with us, I am also under orders from work that they get cake, and they have all specified sponge and not fruit cake!
