Been reading all posts about tablets I want to buy one for my daughter but I'm a bit confused about people saying bank details have to be entered, does this mean for her to download free apps etc my bank details are needed, Thankyou

You just need a google mail email account.
And I personally don't link any credit card with my google wallet.

You can always buy a card, a bit like a top up card for pay as you go mobiles (how they were in the past), you can get them from the supermarkets and come in various amounts.
