QWERTY Travel Broker Problems

Hi there. Looking for anyone else who has had recent issues with the above firm. My wife agreed to go on a Hen weekend to Barcelona which is taking place in June this year. The girl who organised it got the cheapest deal she could through QWERTY travel broker. The deal includes Jet2 flights and a hotel in Barcelona. The girl organising sent an e-mail out to all participants outlining the deposit amount which had to be paid, and then the dates for the subsequent payments to settle the full amount. At no time did she clarify that actually the deposit wasn't actually a deposit, and that the terms and conditions stated that the full amount had to be paid regardless if you went or not. My wife has recently had to pull out due to family medical issues and she was fully expecting to loose her deposit, only to be told, no you actually have to pay up the full amount otherwise QWERTY will pass this cost onto all the other girls going on the trip. That's bad enough, but we looked at changing the name on the booking, ie getting someone to go in my wife's place, and this is the real sting, QWERTY say they will charge a fee of £240 to change the name. Outrageous!!!! On Jet2's own site, a name change only costs £27. Has anyone else had any similar recent issues? Thanks for looking.

Jet2 charge £27.50 plus any difference in fare so that would be £55 for a return ticket plus the fare difference
when you book through a third party you will also have their fees on top
Does your wife's insurance cover her for the circumstances?0 -
I would say your wife's issue is more with her friend than with QWERTY. I imagine QWERTY have a section in their terms and conditions, which states what the cancellation or amendment fees are.
A deposit is to secure the holiday, and as you say that's what you lose if you cancel. However the closer you get to the time of travel the higher the % of the full amount you need to pay. It could be that this was explained to your wife's friend but she hasn't passed it on.
As for Jet2's charges, £240 could be about right. I have just taken this from their website, it's £35 each way to start with plus any increase in flight prices etc. So if she booked it a while ago it may have been cheap, but now the price has gone up and you need to pay the price difference. I agree that this is a tad extreme but that's the way it is.
"There is an administration fee to make a name, date or timing change of 35GBP / 45EUR / 58CHF / 1060CZK / 210PLN per person per one-way flight. In addition to this fee, if there is an increase in the fare, taxes, fees and charges at the time of making the change to the price you originally paid, then this difference will be added to the overall cost of making the change. If the fare, taxes, fees and charges have decreased since making the original booking, no refund will be paid. We do allow spelling errors of up to 3 letters to be corrected free of charge and this can be done either online by visiting the Manage my booking section on the website or through our call centre.
In addition to the above the following charges apply:
Payment by credit cards incur a fee of 4%
Payments using PayPal incur a fee of 2% on the total amount payable.

The £240 may be the full cost, are you comparing like with like?
Just claim on the insurance.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
If it's a medical problem and she can't travel her insurance will pay up. If not then she will just have to paytravelover0
