Can anyone please tell me what my virtual ram should be set at please.
I recently added extra ram making a total of 1gb, not a lot I know but I only use this laptop for general surfing.

I would set it at 2048MB, and don't let the system manage it, it'll cut down on excess disk-thrash. I assume you're on XP if you've only upgraded to 1GB......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
One would assume that you use XP so 2GB is more than enough

Yes, XP Pro on an old Thinkpad X31.

Should System managed size and No paging file be unchecked?0

yes, tick Custom size, max and min enter 2048, click Set, OK, apply, reboot pc.
That is ok then, I did that, thanks.
I didn't think it would make much difference but just opened ten tabs and flirted from site to site and all were instant.
Mind you changing up from 256mb to 1gb of memory has made a fast difference, no surprise there.
I love this little Thinkpad X31, don't like the new style keyboards and don't like the widescreens. My daughter can keep her £360 laptop, I will keep my £30 ebay one!0 -

I love Thinkpads, all of them built to last, easy to work on, generally reliable, and as they were business-orientated machines, built like brick-$hithouses......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
