Do we reckon the accommodation will materialise? Because if I could get flights (they are cheap at the mo) then I would just use the hotel room as a base for a break, and not bother with the rock thing.
Boo, this was my first ever 'win'
I got a call and email too, the bloke sounded like a pushy salesman - I bet everyone who entered 'won' runners up..
I would have liked to go to the event had this been a real win but accommodation is usually cheap anyway at that time of year and even if it does exist there's probably better bases to be had than San Antonio so doesn't seem worth taking up. I wouldn't mind betting they get their money back on other bumped up costs at the hotel even if the rooms did materialise.
The charges on their website for what they charge for hotel and passes for anyone wanting to book the event are outrageous and massively overpriced! I don't even get their marketing as what is supposed to be a rock event (not a great one at that) sounds more like an 18-30 holiday (which is what the resort was notorious for originally).
I presume this is the promoters of the rock event that have pushed the boundaries of this as a 'competition' and not Team Rock Radio?? Wondered if it was worth a complaint to TRR, as feels like they have handed out people's details to a marketing scam.
I won't be replying to them.0 -
I was also a 'runner up'! Knew about the £10 admin fee but can't afford flights so I declined my prize. Email also talked about upgrading to more days / better hotels etc so I do think it's a scam and everyone who entered is runner up!2014 Wins - Chocs, Koala, Toiletries, Alton Towers Tickets, Budweiser Glass, Pizza, Dress, Canvas x 2, Hamper, Toucan Box, Specs, DVD, Baby Bouncer, Wine, £100 M&S Voucher, Easter Activity Pack, Nappy Cream, Men’s Shoes, Lindt Bunny, £50 Tesco Voucher, Ella's Kitchen Snacks

Hi, I just had the same call, have declined x0

so i too 'won' a runners up prize, accept i already knew of hard rock hell and know serveral of the bands playing. iv done a liitle look into the festival and seen a forum with plenty of previous attendees and a few reviews from years back by the likes of metal hammer and efestivals.
Yes maybe its a bit of a con and a mnarketing stunt to get the numbers up and spread the word but hey ho why not. looking into costs it still saves me a few quid, the hotel has decent trip advisor reviews so im in...
I will let you all know if i come back from a holiday hell or something0 -
Just got one of these myself... don't know whether to be put off or not?
It looks like a bit of soft salesmanship as you're given a lot of upgrade options but presumably if you go on the dates of their choice and don't upgrade then you can still go for £10 per person and sort your own flights?0 -
I got this phone call too, was a 'runner up' I looked into the flights which would work out between £100-£200 pp, then would need to upgrade as the hotel they offered looked awful, which was extra cost.
In the end for 2 people would be close to £600 in extras which would work out more than the cost of the so called prize.
Definitely a bit dodgy, but I had my suspicions when she rang and then once she forwarded the email with more details I knew for sure.
They have since bombarded me with texts and phone calls!! Bloody gutted because I thought it was my first proper win!0 -
Yup. The fact they had a pre-rolled email with all the upgrade options tells you all you need to know.
You probably could have the prize "as is" if you went to the room they want you to have at the dates they had available (4 specific days in May) - anything else is an upgrade.
Having been to Ibiza recently you wouldn't be saving much. I went last year for a weekend and ended up spending about £1000. The hotel was about £150 of that.0
