DD almost doubled by npower

I'm sure this is a mistake, but I'm worried about it. We received our bill today and despite being £444 in credit our DD is increased from £174 to £336 a month. Please someone tell me this must be a mistake! I know I can ring them in the morning but I could do with the peace of mind tonight.

It's a mistake.

You are covered by the DD guarantee with your bank. Check your balance daily, and if any payments are taken that you haven't authorised, contact your bank immediately.

In the meantime, do a price comparison based on your usage, there will almost certainly be a cheaper, more competent supplier than npower out there.

I've done as you suggested and am in the process of changing supplier. I've rang npower, apparently, even though both meters are in the same location the engineer has only taken one reading so our gas is based on an estimate, I've read the meter and in fact we now owe them! What a shambles! That also means my comparisons are off and may well not be the saving we thought. They have offered an alternative tarriff which will give us a huge saving, but I'm taking some time to consider.
