What does someone do when moving from jobseekers into full time work

Asking for advice for a friend, she's a single parent, been on income support for 5 years and jobseekers for last 13 months, she went for an interview this afternoon and offered a job with 30 hours a week starting tomorrow.
She doesn't know what she has to do to come off jobseekers, stop claiming housing benefit and start claiming working tax.
Will she get help with money as she won't be paid any wages for 2 weeks.
Any help I can pass on would be very grateful.

  • she will get a 4 week run on of benefits and if she is a single parent an extra 40per week for the next 12 months - unless that has been phased out in the reforms.
  • In Work Credit stopped on 1 October 2013 - you can no longer apply for In Work Credit.
There is no four week run of benefits now eg I.S but there is still a four week run on of housing benefit if your friend is iro of HB.
Job Seekers is paid two weeks in arrears so depending on her payday and starting work date she may get up to two weeks of JSA as her final payment
  • Thank you for all your advice,
she is 25 (26 in july), 1 child age 6
I think she said she'll be on £6.30 and hour, could have been £6.50

She's going to have to put her daughter in after school club which is £8 a day, could she get any help with this

  • Okay so she'll get working and child tax credits. I would assume she already gets child tax credits so all she needs to do is call to update her changes.

She can get help with up to 70% of her childcare providing it's with a approved childcare provider (e.g ofsted approved)

Thank you, she does already get child tax and the after school club is a registered group, they do before school, toddler group (my daughter went to that) and after school club

She might not claim childcare yet. School finishes at 3.15 and she'll get home from work at about 4.45, I've told her I'll collect her daughter and bring her to mine for a couple of hours so she won't have to claim childcare. My daughter is in the same class and I only live across the road from school so it makes no difference to me.
