First Utility price comparisons wrong?
I have received several nagging e-mails from First Utility about my fixed deal running out. It includes price comparisons of my current tariff, the one I will be automatically kicked on to and two fixed tariffs.
They are using UK household average usage figures of 13500 KW/h gas and 3200 KW/h electricity. I have plugged these figures in MSE, Uswitch and my own spreadsheet and all come out with the same results.
Strangely, First Utility's figures are different. They range form 1.5% more for a 2017 fix and 12% more for my current tariff.
It does seem odd that multiplying a few numbers together can lead to such large discrepancies.
What this means is that if I switch to the 2017 fix tariff I will, according to First Utility be paying 8.26% more however in reality I will be paying 20.47% more.
Something doesn't seem right. Am I missing something?
