British Gas cancellation fees!
I recently bought a house which was already supplied by British Gas. Before I moved in I signed with First Utility and wrote to British Gas to tell them I would be going with First Utility but understood that I had no choice but to be supplied by BG until FU took over. I gave them readings and asked them to set me up with a temporary account.
6 weeks later I give my final readings to BG and FU take over. BG have sent me a bill for duel fuel total £50 plus cancellation fees of £100!
I have written to them about it - but does anyone have any views or experienced this themselves and did they have to pay the cancellation fees? Thanks

Unless you chose a specific tariff when you moved in you would be on the standard tariff which has no cancellation fees.
Did you give British Gas the readings for when you moved in?
It might be worth a call to talk it through (0800 048 0202). Does the final bill say which tariff they have you on?0 -
As above. What BG tariff did you request? If it carried an ETC, then the fee is payable, as you are still in minimum term.
You went about your switch the wrong way around. No free lunch, and no free laptop
