schooll uniform grant

been told by school that a school uniform grant is only available to those in receipt of free school meals, my son is on DLA but was told only free school meals matter -is this correct?

    It depends on your local council, ours does not give out uniform grants at all unless there has been loss via fire or flood!
    It probably goes on Income support/JSA as you would normally get free school meals with those.

    Is DLA a non-means tested Benefit?

    Perhaps if so, people who were rich could be claiming DLA... but still be able to afford school meals.

    Am I wrong here?

    DLA is non means tested so yes you're right, it could be awarded to someone in a high earning family who could afford school meals. DLA is not a 'passport' to free school meals or uniforms. Grants for uniforms are at the discretion of each local authority. It isn't necessarily so that if you get free school meals you'll also get uniforms as our council don't do them any more.

    Yep each council has their own policy. Basically most only give it to those on income support and asylum seekers.

    i get mine because i am low income and receive child tax credit.

    I work part time and receive WTC and CTC.
    My son is in receipt of DLA and we don't get free school meals or uniform.

    Ditto, mine also and i pay for uniforms and meals receive wtc & ctc and dla for son (5).
