Launching an online business...

Looking for some suggestions here. My parents have a small business, mainly service based, however, they also have products available to sell. We have the website setup with payment processing ready to go but how do we go about letting people know we're there?

My parents are trying to tell existing customers with word of mouth but we don't necessarily have email addresses for them. We do have Facebook and Twitter but again we don't have many followers.

Not sure where to focus my attention first!

  • Advertise. Everywhere. Where ever people can read, hear and see.

Depending on product / service--- advertise on gumtree, forums, magazines, newspapers, flyers, Ebay etc.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if flyers were appropriate for a website but never thought of Gumtree and the rest.

Offline adverts for online services dont have as good a response rate but this can be helped by more targeted distribution
  • I offer a service based business. I converted my facebook profile to a "like" page and then paid a small amount (£3 per day for 7 days to advertise which had my page viewed by a few thousand people and got my 200 local likes- also created an offer for £10) I've since signed 15 new members creating further revenue of around £500 per month.

Im just getting my head around twitter for business purposes.

Twitter is an odd one isn't it, although I have a twitter account (linked to my facebook fanpages) I still don't see how it differs from say, facebook posts, as they both speak to the same audience.

Maybe someone will come along and expand on its usefulness :)

Twitter ads don't look like ads when paid for.

We use it for different markets to other forms of marketing, although it's more expensive.
