We will need to do readings of electricity on our last day when we empty the flat.
My aunt will have an over payment on her electricity as there has been no electricity been used since July last year. How does my mum go about doing this will they need to see PoA,
If the payments have been coming out of an account that is still functioning, the company should refund to that account. The company will probably need to see the POA - the solicitor did a certified copy for me to send away.
also should my mum get all my aunt's mail diverted to her address.
I found the DWP and the NHS insisted on sending mail to Dad's care home - they wouldn't accept my address even though they had seen the POA form. Everyone else was willing to use my address for Dad.
What about her private pension and the pension from her late husband does my mum have to deal with them as well??
Basically, your Mum has to "be" your Aunt. Anyone that Aunt would have had contact with needs to know that Mum is now the person to contact.0 -
Hi Mojisola,
Thanks for your help. My mum went to the post office today and spoke to someone there about getting the mail diverted. They gave her 2 forms one that she can fill in to have the mail diverted and the other one was for having the mail diverted if you have PoA. Not sure where u live, we live in Scotland so it could be different from where you live.
I would probably be better getting my mum to write a letter to everyone involved and let them know the she is the now the person to contact.
Thanks again for your help. Hopefully ive got all the information i need now.

It will all settle down into a routine at some point!
There's a lot to deal with at first and, for most of us, it's our first experience of handling things which makes it much harder.
I didn't do a Post Office diversion - because the DWP and the NHS knew Dad was moving into a care home, they insisted on having his new address rather than sending correspondence to my address.
If the original POA forms with the signatures on gets lost, it creates a huge problem so do get a certified copy if it will have to be sent away.0 -

Hi Mojisola,
My aunt is registered with the doctor in the nursing home so that should be fine she had to as her own doctor was in a different town. Probably wont matter about DWP either and the bank statements already get sent to my mums address.
Can my mum not use photo copy's of the PoA or do they need to be the originals. When my mum went to the sheltered housing place today they just photo copied the originals.
I do hope it gets a lot easier for my mum and dad after this is all sorted they don't keep in great health themselves.

Whoever needs to see the PoA will insist on seeing either the original or a certified copy (which has the pages stamped with an embossed stamp). They will then usually take a photocopy of it for their own records and give the original back to you.0 -
Your Mother would be best advised to put the money back into your Aunt's bank account, and then pay the Funeral Director directly with the card she has from the account.
And then pay out everything else, no matter how large or small, in the same way. Even down to magazines or sweets from the newsagents for Auntie."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

I didn't do this. I took an amount of cash out and kept a record of what was spent when in a notebook along with the receipts.0 -

Too late for that I am afraid my mum had her appointment at the funeral directors today and the money has been alreaady paid to them.

My aunt gets her papers and magazines delivered to the nursing home from the little shop at the end of the road and they don't have a card payment machine in it.
Yes majisola, that is what my mum does she has every receipt for anything she has had to buy for my aunt not sure if she has it written in a note book though so must suggest that to her.
Thanks again for your help.
