Wish I had left well enough alone! Just updated to windows 8.1 on my new HP pavilion laptop now the web page text is almost unreadable its so small and pages have big white borders each side making the web page sit in the middle of the screen. I've read through various HP and Windows help sections but nothing will correct it. Also everything looks blurry. Help!

Tried that earlier. Have just opened ie tools 'advanced' and clicked the automatically reset font size and it has helped but everything is now bigger than it was originally when using windows 8. Windows help section has lots of people with same problem but oddly there's no definite answer with different advice being given to each query. I'm thinking of doing the 'Reset IE settings' but this can mess up apps etc, so I may well finish up worse off!0

When I updated my XPS-12 to 8.1 I simply cured this by changing the Zoom Level in IE to 175%. The white bars at each side then disappear and the content fills the window.
You can change the Zoom level in IE either by going to the View menu in the top toolbar, or if you've got the status bar running at the bottom of the IE window, the Zoom level is available on the right hand side.
IE will remember your setting in future sessions.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0 -
Have just tried running the HP IE troubleshooter which said there were no issues. Tried resolution etc earlier, nothing showing in devices. have also turned on cleartype. Have managed to get rid of most of the blurriness on the Desktop and start page but web pages still not displaying correctly. On my old Dell there was a simple display web page setting which I had on medium, can't seem to find anything similar on this HP, I can change the settings for the desktop and start screen via resolution settings but it doesn't alter the web page sizing.0

Hi, I think I was typing my reply same time as yourself. Yes, tried zoom earlier but have just gone back to it after your post, 175 makes it massive and unreadable, 100 is same as when I reset the font size earlier which is bigger than when I was using windows 8 and is a bit blurry, 75 makes it smaller! I have left it at 100.0

Have now set zoom to 95 but pages still not right, text sits on top of other text, text that is supposed to be in boxes runs through the lines below, etc. There's also a horrible greyness to everything (I've checked and brightness and everything else such as resolution, colours are set to default and recommended settings). I've only had this HP for two weeks and this windows update to 8.1 has messed it right up! I'm going to see if I can uninstall it, hopefully I can.0

It's not zoom it's your screen reolution scaling has reverted to a default setting, hopefuly this hsould fix it.
1. Right-click on Desktop and select "Screen resolution" option.
2. Now click on "Make text and other items larger or smaller" link.
3. It'll open "Display" settings page. You can also directly open "Display" window by selecting "Personalize" option from Desktop context menu and then click on "Display" link given at the bottom of left-sidebar.
4. Now enable "Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays" option and apply the changes.
5. Restart your system and your problem should be fixed.
It seems this new feature is not working properly in many computer systems. We hope that Microsoft will fix this issue soon via an update or hotfix. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

OK, sorry if we're going round in circles but ... you've experimented with the Zoom Level but have you also experimented with the Text Size which is also available in IE's View Menu?...
