First time buyer- which electricity supplier do I use?!

Hi, I'm moving to a coach house in the next month and wandering which energy supplier I should go for. I've been doing a lot of research and they all talk about switching or fixing. I will be living on my own in a one bed and out at work most days. Any advice would be good- at the moment I'll probably stick to the supplier the homeowners have and maybe switch after a while. Thanks!

Decide who you want to use before you move in (avoid npower like the plague - they are useless!)

Ensure you take meter readings as soon as you get into the property and let the existing supplier know your details and the reading.

If they are not your preferred supplier, sign up with your new supplier as soon as possible as it will take a while to transfer and until you do, the existing supplier will charge you on their standard tariffs (which are higher than contract tariffs).

If the existing supplier is your preferred supplier, sign up to the tariff you want when you first call them and so you shouldn't be billed anything / very little at the higher standard tariff rate.

You will be in a deemed contract with the existing supplier from day one, so you can't commence a switch until you have registered with them and given opening reads.
You are then free to move if you wish, which take around 4-5 weeks. Use your estimated kWh annual usage on any comp site to find the best tariff for your region and consumption.
