I have, today, received a letter from them stating, "... that after consideration and having spoken to the Financial Ombudsman's office your alleged claim does not fall within the Ombudsman's jurisdiction. With this in mind I am afraid to advise that we will not consider any settlement with regards to your alleged claim for the following reason:-
The Insurance product was purchased prior to the group being regulated (14th January 2005)."
Is this a fair reason to reject the claim? I was entitled to an enhanced redundancy and at least 6 months' sick pay none of which was discussed at the point of arrangement. I'll appeal to the Ombudsman as per their letter but I just thought I'd ask and share the story for others!0 -

It is a fair reason to reject your complaint.
Redundancy package is irrelevant. 6 months pay is still just 6 months pay. The FOS has no remit to review the complaint. It is pre-regulation from a company that was not regulated or a member of an earlier body. The FOS may suggest you try the insurer.
