Lines on picture

Options
Hi I have an LG Smart tv 32ln575v. When I watch via Sky hd I sometimes get horizontal lines, best described as watching through blinds. It does not happen when watching freeview or blu ray.

I have changed HDMI lead, changed the Sky box bit problem still there

Any ideas?

  • Have you tried plugging it into a different HDMI input? It might actually be a fault on the input itself.

Yes I tried that but it did not solve it

You're either seeing interlacing or some gimmicky feature in the TV that's meant to improve the picture but is actually making it worse, would be my guess.
Firstly, check that the Sky box is outputting 1080i.
Now, go through the LG display or 'extra features' or similar settings - turn OFF anything along the lines of motion control, sports, or similar. Ask if there's anything you're not sure of.
Check the picture each time after trying each thing.
You've got Freeview HD, so if you want to eliminate the Sky box, and the HDMI lead, AND the HDMI input from the equation, use that if available and see if you get the lines.
Are these horizontal black, opaque lines, and what size are they, and what is the approx distance between them?

I will try as suggested. It is odd that the freeview and bluray pictures are not affected

When you choose the Sky input on the TV is it listed as a "HDMI1 Satellite" input or just "HDMI (whatever socket number it's plugged into)" Or something else?

The type listed can have an effect on how the TV will display a signal.

If your LG is anything like mine.
Press the Input button then the Red button on your remote.

Select the input that is plugged into the SKY box.
In the list shown make sure you select "Satellite".
Then select "Close" and exit the menu.

Hopefully that will fix the problem.

So what does the TV do when you tell it there's a sat box connected?
If the BluRay player definitely works, take the HDMI cable out of it, and plug it into the Sky box. Assuming the BD was outputting 1080p, the 1080i will be putting less data down the cable.
You didn't answer my question about the size of the lines and the distance between them...

Everything is fine atm..The lines were about 1/4 inch in size and same distance between them. As I said they did not appear in Freeview or Bluray
