The keyboard and mouse on my PC have stopped working after a windows 8 update. I've googled the problem and this link tells of the same problem http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/06e9b341-0619-4085-acbf-e2f0133ca428/windows-8-keyboard-and-mouse-not-working?forum=w8itprohardware so I'm pretty sure its a Windows 8 problem as the PC was fine before the update.
I've tried connecting a wired mouse with USB connection and disconnected the wireless keyboard and mouse I have been using also taken mouse from laptop tried it and brand new mouse, have also tried another keyboard but no luck.
The PC loads up ok and the mouse and keyboard work for a few seconds as the pc loads but as soon as its loaded up and ready to go the mouse & keyboard stop not giving me enough time to click on anything and attempt a restore. One of the fixes from the link above is to “Turn off filter keys” but I don't have a touch screen and the fix was posted by someone who had mouse/keyboard problem but who’s touch screen still worked.
I've tried inserting the windows 8 disc to restore but by the time it loads the mouse has stopped working.
Is there anything else I can try?
Thanks

How far does it get before the keyboard and mouse fail?
If it gets as far as the login screen, then instead of logging in, right-click on the 'power' symbol at the bottom right, and then hold the Shift key as you select Restart. This should get you into the startup options, and from there, I'd suggest a System Restore back to before the last set of Updates.
Edit:I've tried inserting the windows 8 disc to restore but by the time it loads the mouse has stopped working.
Did you manage to get the computer to boot from this? I think there's a repair option in there which should help and would hopefully get you to System Restore. If it won't boot otherwise, you may need to go into the BIOS settings to change the boot order to put the CD/DVD drive before the hard disk.0 -
Hi Jivesinger
Thanks for your help.
After many frustrating hours I searched my loft and found the original mouse and keyboard with the old purple and green connections to the PC, I’d already tried a mouse with USB connection but it didn't work.
The mouse worked although the keyboard wouldn't but with the mouse working I was able to navigate to System Restore and I'm happy to report that all seems to be up and running.
I really don't know what went wrong, I'm assuming it was a problem after a Windows 8 update but who knows, I'm not that technically minded.
I may update the PC to Windows 8.1, it was updated to 8.1 last year but when this happened my old HP Photosmart 7660 printer stopped working as its not compatible with 8.1 so I went back to windows 8.0 but perhaps Microsoft have ironed out some of the glitches that comes with Windows 8.0 and I’ll bite the bullet and splash out on a new printer?
Thank you for taking the time and effort replying to my post, its very much appreciated.
