only problem is the cheapest company for lg's will only put 12 on, the other company which will bend the reg's to get 14 on want nearly 7 grand for 12 !
The 'other company' probably aren't "bending" the regs - they'll be using uprated fixings as suggested by the regs. That will of course cost more than 'ordinary spec fixings' - though perhaps not as much extra as they want to charge. yes they are using uprated fixings, there price of £5731 for 14 mono black 260w kioto panels is great but when you ask for other panels then the price shoots up. One thing I have noticed so far is that most installers have deals with 1 manufacturer and wil push you towards their panels. All 3 who have quoted me have done this, when you ask for anything else i.e sunpowers, benq's ect then the price increase isn't worth it.3.64KW system, aurora power one inverter, South west facing with no shading in Lancashire.0 -


heres the pic of the roof about 9.30am, second guy just been, says we could get 2 rows of 7 panels leaving a 25cm gap, going to quote for micro inverters aswell but says we could put 4 panels on 1 string near chimney and rest on another so we can compare quotes. He is going to quote for 12 327w sunpower panels but says they are expensive.
I got a quote with micro inverters incase I can't move the chimney for £6600. What I don't understand is the surveyor has put a shading factor of 0.9 on the quote bringing the estimated generation down from 3057kwh to 2751kwh. Is he just being conservative with the estimated output ? The roof only shades early morning and would only effect 2 panels, I thought micro inverters would help with the shading ?3.64KW system, aurora power one inverter, South west facing with no shading in Lancashire.0 -

I'm with you, the use of micro's or PO's should limit the effect of the shading to just 2 or 3 panels. As the shading will only be for a few hours, and when the sun isn't well aligned, I'd have thought the effect would be mostly mitigated.
That reduction of 300kWh (10%) would probably represent all generation during that period!
Perhaps the installer has to cover his/her back, as shading shouldn't be belittled and they don't want to worry about any future complaints - so are quoting low.
TBH, a dual MPPT inverter limiting losses to the RHS panels is probably your simplest and cheapest bet, if you can't reposition that chimney slightly. Micro's/PO's will work a bit better, but at slightly more expense, and more kit that could possibly go wrong in the long term, with access issues.
Start with KISS:
1. Move chimney.
2. Dual MPPT with minimum number of panels on the RHS string.
3. Micro's/PO's.

finally decided, im goin with installer 2 who is going to move the flue aswell. £5700 for 14 260w panels and £250 to move the flue.3.64KW system, aurora power one inverter, South west facing with no shading in Lancashire.0 -

A simpler answer to your vent pipe problem is too cut it below the eave and fit an Air Admittance valve costing about £25. That will satisfy any Building Control dept. and is the cheapest and easiest solution.0 -

But surely that is a flue for a boiler or some other fire etc, not a sewer vent in the photo? You cannot put an AAV on a flue as far as I'm aware.
