Memory cards: Smart phone ones more Expensive, than digicamera ones? (if both 8gb)

is a 32Gb Memory card(mini) for a smart Phones more expensive than a camera 32gb one ??

The smartphone memory card is mini, which comes with an adapter,

and the camera one is bigger.. but if they are both 32 GB, and the same make, which one tends to be expensiver?

(even if they are both 8gb, and the same make) - just wondering which ones are more pricey, the smart phone small ones, or the digi camera ones, generally ?


and from a high street. what are the best 2-3 makes of memory cards are the best to get, in terms of a low price?

Proper camera ones will be more expensive, but if you go for the same type, same size, same make, the price will be the same.

The speed of a card can affect its price.
The speed dictates how fast data can be written to the card, or in other words, how quickly you could take pictures, record movies, etc. (and at what resolution/level of detail).

The speed of a card doesn't matter unless your shooting HD video, and even then the difference will be negligible.

The fact that a camera-specific card is more expensive is just marketing

I haven't heard of memory cards designed for specific applications. As I understand it, they come in certain brands (which may be more or less reliable than other brands), a specification type (SD card, micro-SD, CF, UDMA, etc.), a capacity (e.g. 32GB), and a speed rating (e.g. Class 10).

By "proper camera" I mean pro level dSLR, where you'll put two memory cards in the camera, and probably go for Sandisk Extreme Pro or Lexar Pro cards. They cost a lot more than standard cards, you don't buy them online because many of the online versions are fakes. They have a higher constant write speed than most cards and are made of better quality, more reliable components. (They also come with recovery software).

You can use those cards in any device capable of taking them, but for cost reasons, most people would not want to put them in a phone.

These days most smartphones use Micro-SD(HC) cards, they can come with or without an adapter to make it bigger to fit Mini- and full-SD sizes. Speed of cards are important, try a class 6 or 10 one so that you can use it for most occasions. HD video and DSLR cameras may need the highest rated ones.
Do not buy cards from Ebay (many fakes), ones sold by Amazon themselves are fully guaranteed and refundable. Online would be at least 50% cheaper than the equivalent high-street ones. Some recommendations from Amazon UK:
