Jsa

My wife is about to be made redundant from a part time job. She doesn't pay tax or national insurance. She as worked there for 6 years can she claim JSA?

    Do you work?

If she doesn't not earn enough to pay NI contributions then she will not be entitled to contribution based JSA, no matter how long she has worked there.

Depending on your income she may be entitled to income based. if not, you may qualify for additional benefits (tax credits, housing benefit, council tax support) if you are on a low income (but too high for income JSA)

You earn too much, I'm afraid. Do you have any children?

You may get some child tax credits and child benefit, if you don't already receive that.

Then you might be entitled to some tax credits.

However, they are complicated as they are usually based on the previous tax year and you wouldn't qualify.

Hopefully some of our tax credit 'experts' might be along and tell you about this and whether you should apply.

I wont be able to get child tax credits as our combined income this year will be about £30000
