Problem getting Android phone to sync with Office 365

Hoping somebody on here can help.
I've recently got a new laptop, and need to get Office on it. I'm currently in my free first month of subscribing to Office 365 to see if I like it. I need "proper" MS Office, because I code in VBA for Excel, and like to keep my contacts and calendar along with my emails in Outlook. I make extensive use of the "categories" feature in Outlook, and need a way to sync the calendar, contacts and tasks to my phone (a Samsung Galaxy Ace 2) including the categories, although I don't want or need to clutter up my phone with emails. The lack of category information is why I can't sync to the native Android calendar, because it doesn't have them (as far as I've been able to find out). An Office 365 subscription seems the best way forward, because then I can upgrade the other three PCs in the house (mostly used by my kids) - one of which has no Office at all ATM, and the other two of which only have Office 2003, and are starting to cause my son problems because he can't open Office 2010/2013 documents from school.
On my old laptop, I had CompanionLink (which I paid for) which took care of the sync between Outlook and DejaOffice (which I installed for free on my phone). I can if necessary buy CompanionLink again for my new laptop, but I'd prefer not to if I can get the phone to sync directly with Office 365. I also like the idea of being able to get at Word and Excel files on my phone occasionally.
When I started my free trial of Office 365, it said it would sync to Android phones. I clicked something on the official Office 365 site that sent my phone a text message containing a link to http://office.com/mobile-apps, which it said would allow me to download the necessary software for my phone. However, when I use the phone to click on the link, it tells me that the software isn't compatible with my device. When I google for this problem, I find all sorts of stuff about difficulties in setting up email (not relevant because I don't want the email bit) and about the apps only being for phones not tablets (but I'm trying to put it on a phone).
What should I do next? Just buy CompanionLink again and accept that I'll only be able to sync at home when the phone and laptop are on the same wireless network? I'm not even sure if CompanionLink will work with Office 365 anyway.
So I am feeling stuck, and need advice to decide what to do, preferably before my free month runs out, so I can make sure everything works before I start forking out for a subscription.
Any advice gratefully received. Thanks.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Easier than all of that.
Go to settings, accounts, add account. Depending on which version of Android you are using it may ask different questions but you basically just want to add an exchange email or exchange activesync account. Put in your address and password, it should auto detect your server settings and connect, next it will ask you what you want to sync and then simply save.
If it doesn't auto detect your server settings for any reason off the top of my head I believe it is outlook.office365.com
We use 365 Exchange Online at work now and most people now have their account linked to their phone.0 -

Thanks OGR. I tried that and it didn't work. I think there's more to my problem than just how to sync, I'm afraid. I wanted to install Office Mobile on my phone, not just sync existing phone software with the cloud. Without installing Office Mobile on my phone I have nothing to read Excel/Word files, which I'd like, and nothing to store Outlook data on that preserves all the info, apart from DejaOffice, which doesn't sync with anything other than through CompanionLink.
Anyway, it turns out that once you've got CompanionLink, you can install it on your new computer without having to repurchase it, so I'm going with that option. A bit of googling seems to say that Office Mobile is only compatible with Android 4.0 and later, and my phone, although less that a year old, is not new enough to have that.Do you know anyone who's bereaved?
