DHP For Removals

Hello,

I was hoping someone could advise me or give me a bit of information. I'll explain what's been happening.

I suffer with depression, severe anxiety, agoraphobia and have just recently found out that I probably have misophonia (noise anxiety), which I've probably had since I was a nipper, also IBS, Gout, neck pain, headaches, along with some other physical problems.

I moved into my current home which is a maisonette just over a year ago, there's a flat above us, they've always been sort of noisy but it wasn't too bad at first, however the daughter of the tenant keeps having parties everytime the tenant is away, one particular weekend she had two on the trot which were so loud that the noise could be heard from another street, on the second night I reported it to 101 and I also report both nights to the area patch manager, they also spat on my windows, threw a fag end in my living room window and threw food outside my bedroom window. She was warned etc. About two months later she has another party, only this time they start throwing bottles into my garden, one smashed, I have a dog btw, so I ended up calling 101 at 4 am to report it. After they were warned for a third time the tenant and her daughter then started purposely stamping around their flat, it was horrific, they wouldn't just do it for 10 minutes, it would go on for hours. They've now had 7 warnings, two from noise pollution, the problem is they have made my noise anxiety so bad that it triggers my IBS I constantly have stomach problems, my headaches and neck pain get worse, I get irritable and snap at my 20 year old son and the dog, I've lost my temper several times.

My patch manager is now trying to help me move on medical grounds, the reason why I've explained the above is because I don't know if it'll make a difference to my chances of getting a payment from DHP if I get put on priority housing.

Would the council consider my mental health when looking at my application and if necessary would they help me with a deposit for private accommodation?

I hope my question makes sense as my concentration is quite bad and it takes me ages to type anything.

Thanks in advance

Kerrie

    To answer one question.

DHP is not for removal costs.

You would need to apply for a budgeting loan. See here:

    https://www.gov.uk/budgeting-loans/overview

Are you currently in council/social housing and looking to be moved to another place?

If you are in council/social housing at the moment and wanting to move to private accommodation then your council may run a Deposit Guarantee scheme where they guarantee your deposit to the landlord (no money exchanges hands) so you need to ask about this.

Yes it is... lol. At least it is for the county I'm in.

    :P

I had already checked this out before posting otherwise I wouldn't have asked :D It's probably different for each county?

I live in a council property in Nottingham, I did look at that bond scheme but they only seem to do it for homeless people here.

I'm on homeswapper as well but no one seems to want this area.

I'll look into what you just said about the deposit guarantee scheme as well, thanks for that info.
  • What can DHP cover?

Reductions in housing benefit or universal credit where the benefit cap has been applied

Reductions in housing benefit or universal credit for under occupation when renting from a local authority, a registered housing association or other registered social landlord.

Reductions in housing benefit or universal credit as a result of LHA restrictions

Rent shortfall to prevent a household becoming homeless whilst exploring housing alternatives

    Rent in advance

    Rent deposits

    Non dependent deductions

    The effect of income tapers

Any other lump sum costs associated with a housing need (e.g. removal costs, fleeing domestic violence)

I believe this does vary from council to council.

Perhaps if you are not awarded costs for removal through DHP then my post may be helpful.

    Did you have another question?
  • Not yet xD I'm just seeing what people think my chances are, because if my neighbours keep it up with the noise I may full well end up doing something that I might regret. So I'm considering all options and taking everyone's advice.

Thanks to the ones who have answered so far, I have pressed the thanks button on your posts.

I'm just having a look at Caz's link atm :D
  • Oh by the way, I can't get a social fund loan atm, which is why I was asking about the DHP. I'm up to my limit which dropped last year when my child benefit stopped :(
