Fitting mirrors to existing sliding wardrobe

Hi

I have some sliding cupboards which I want to put a sheet of mirror on to the face if as they are currently just plywood and not appealing

I have seen a company called mirrorfit online that sell made to measure mirrors

I need size 2.2 m high by 90cm wide and 3 pieces

I had some questions

For this size in a bedroom should I get foil backing - is this really needed if the mirror does crack and it has lots of glue on the back anyway then I assume it won't all fall to pieces

Should I have holes in all four corners as well as the mirror glue or will the glue be sufficient for a mirror of this size ?

Should I go for 4mm or 6mm thickness for something of this size
It will be stuck to a sliding wooden door so I assume the thinner one will be ok?

The total quote is about £350 with foil backed 6mm and holes

Does this seem reasonable for 3 pieces of this size if not does anyone else have any other idea where I could get these mirror sizes from ?

the price sounds ok to me but the one thing that you dont mention is the mirror edge how are they finished

if the edges are going to be exposed then you need to have a polished edge on the mirrors which adds to the cost

Thanks the edges will be covered as the sliding doors have a farm around them so this will slot in and hence will leave the edges as they are

Any advice on questions about thickness, foil backing and whether I need holes as well as glue ?

I'm no expert, but I'd have them drilled with holes for the added reassurance of fixing screws just in case; glass sheets that big are pretty heavy, and as I assume they won't be safety glass, the faint chance of them falling off seems well worth avoiding! Chrome caps on the screws will look fine too.

But if the DIY route is going to cost that much, and unlkess you can't face ripping oit the existing units if these are fitted, isn't it worth considering the alternative of a new, mirror-fronted systems like http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/50245793/ ?

Amazing value and a couple of units would cost around the same?

I've made DIY cupboards/wardrobes and also fitted IKEA ones and the IKEAs always looked better! But good luck either way
