Anything which is income related will now have to be a joint claim such as housing benefit. Is the ESA for either or both of you income based or contributin based?

Your basic ESA would go down. You both now receive £71.70 per week plus any premiums on top. If you're a couple, you'd receive £112.55 per week plus any premiums.

Put your details in https://www.entitledto.co.uk and it should give you a rough idea of what you'll both get.

  • Be prepared to have your ESA completely suspended and no payments made to you when your inform your BDC (Benefit Delivery Centre) because when I made it know to them I was moving in with at the time partner they stopped the benefits immediately and we were left to fill out a lengthy form and visit by a visiting officer arranged possibly as I was moving in with a female!!! So before you do anything save some money equivalent to say a few months of benefit payments just in case this happens to you!!! And be prepared to have a very sore hand and have both of your private finances interrogated!!!! if your happy with waiting and writing lots go for it however if your thinking it will happen smoothly your got another thing coming!!
