Faulty microwave.... but no box or receipt

Hi everyone,
I bought a microwave from Asda (in store) on 28/12/13 and it has stopped working.
As I threw away the box and have lost the receipt, I had given up hope - but understand that the box/receipt would not be needed under the Sales of Goods Act perhaps?
If anyone can advise, I'd be really grateful.
Thanks.

Did you pay for it by card? If so a statement showing the sale will be acceptable proof.0

Unfortunately not, I paid for it with cash.
Does this mean that I cannot take it back?
No it doesn't mean that.
It just means that without any proof of purchase you are relying on the store's own policies, and to some extent on their goodwill.
Smile and be nice and you just might get the resolution you are looking for.0 -
Some stores will look up their merchant copy of the receipt if you can tell them the date, time and transaction value. However it seems to be pure luck as to whether they are willing to do this for you or not.You keep using that word.
