Help..... Housing Crisis

Hi I am desperate for some advice on benefits/housing.

Myself and my partner are both currently claiming JSA as we both finished work before Christmas, we are currently staying at a friends house (off the books) and desperately to get our own place sorted ASAP.

The problem we face is we have found somewhere which will waive the deposit but they are requesting £100 as a downpayment towards the first months rent whilst housing benefit is sorted. As neither of us have been on JSA for the required length of time to get a budgeting loan (26 weeks) that option is out, The Scottish Welfare fund does not give help for rent up front and directs you to "A discretionary Housing Payment" which is only relevant if you are currently in receipt of housing benefit from what I have read... We are desperate to get out of our current temp accommodation (I wont bore you with the details!) Has anyone got any ideas to where we could possibly get some help?

Thanks in advance

Without jobs or oney, your only option maybe to present yourselves at the homeless office, they will not hand over the keys to a LA property but may accomodate you in a B&B as a temp option.

    You have the following options.

    1) Borrow the money from family friends
    2) Sell something to raise the money
    3) Present yourselves to the council (you are officially homeless) and see what help they will give you.

    Good luck!
  • Thanks for your responses :)

We have been to speak to the homeless department and they did advise they could put us up in temp accommodation but they suggested if we were planning on going back to work any time soon not to take that route due to the cost of temp accommodation being so high (and we both are looking at returning to work in the next few weeks) ......

It just seems crazy that they are happy to pay huge costs to house us in temp accommodation but are unable to help with a nominal rent in advance request.... (which we are happy to pay back)
