Nexus 7 touchscreen not working

Options
Hi

The touchscreen on my daughter's Google Nexus 7 (2012 and just out of warranty ) has stopped responding. Tried doing a hard reset and also leaving it for 24 hours with no charge before recharging and trying again with no success. Anything else i should try?

Fleabay have touchscreens for under £20. Has anyone got any experience of how easy these are to fit? I am reasonably good with my hands without being an expert.

Alternatively, can anyone recommend someone who would do the repair either by mail order or in the west of Scotland?

Thanks

Ally

eBay sellers will charge you anything from about £50 upwards for the repair
  • Thanks. I had kind of hoped that i could change the touchscreen without the lcd and wondered if anyone had tried it. May go down the full screen replacement road as per link above then try separating the old lcd and digitizer for using in the future.

where did you buy it from?

If the warrenty has just ran out, you may still get it repaired. in 2012 the nexus 7 was considered the best in it's field for tablets and as such it is reasonable to expect it to last more than 12 months without developing a fault.
you can push the retailer on the issue they might make good in a repair.

  • Missed the latest reply, thanks anyway. Probably too late to try for a manufacturer repair as i've now removed the screen and plugged in one i ordered off ebay. Works exactly the same - LCD fine but no touch response! Aaaarrggh!!!

Have a cracked screen on a 2012 Nexus 7. Every bit of advice I've been given has been buy a new one as it's cheaper than a repair. looking around there right! :(

There was an item on Click recently about how to replace an iPad screen yourself - it looked like it was possible but fraught with difficulties and very time consuming.

You have to factor in the cost of the replacement screen plus the fact that there's no guarantee that its going to be successful which when a second hand replacement is only about £20 more expensive seems like the better option... well to me anyway!
  • Ebay seller is giving me a refund on new screen, as there is obviously something else wrong.

How much you wanting for your old tablet Tuareg? As i appear to have a working screen on a broken tablet lol.

So the replacement screen is doing exactly the same as the original faulty one? Might not be the screen at fault here then. Have you tried holding the power button and the volume button at the same time until it goes black? This can sometimes reset the non-responsive screens.
