PPI: Where should I look in my agreement for PPI?

I have been following the MSE advice on how to reclaim PPI. I have sent off my letters to credit card companies using the templates on the MSE site. I have received back copies of my original agreements with the lenders. I can't see any mention of any PPI. Does this mean I was savvy enough to not take out PPI at the time, or am I overlooking something in the small print that is evidence of me being mis-sold, and therefore paying PPI?

Hi i have a ppi miss sell claim against first direct/magent windows... i was sold ppi protection on a loan which was provided through magent windows around 1997.. i have ALL the paperwork and statements, i contacted first direct who told me to contact magnet windows... magnet have sent me a letter threatening me for legal costs if i make a claim against them... i have now thought about directing this to fos
just wanted a opinion on this matter, i Was told that if i take out the ppi my loan would be accepted which is of course a miss sell and after i was provided no further information on this product...0 -
In most cases, credit card PPI will not appear on the agreements. There is no need to ask for agreements. That is only really useful on unsecured loans if you cannot remember (but not on CC).
Credit card PPI was often added post sale via telephone call. It would appear on the monthly statements if you were paying it.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Please post on your own thread and do not hijack someone elses (thread hijacking being the internet term for you are doing). It is not fair on the original poster (OP) for you to take their thread off subject and it gets confusing if you have multiple conversations going on with unrelated subjects in the same thread.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Good advice. As usual, the poster concerned has posted multiple copies on various threads across the board.Please post on your own thread and do not hijack someone elses
Answered here;
"The PPI complaint you made was about a sale from 1997 which is pre-regulation (January 2005) and Magnet have rejected it on that basis (though I'm not sure why they threaten legal action).
Unless a PPI complaint is against major banks etc (who had their own regulation before 2005) then the FOS have no jurisdiction.
Your complaint is now over."

You don't need the agreements if you already know the account numbers and your best course of action would either have been to check your statements (PPI appears on a separate line for each month your account has a balance), or simply ask the Bank directly if you had PPI.
You could still contact the Banks to ask if you had PPI, but remember you'll also need valid mis-selling complaint reasons in order to complain.
It's not enough that you don't remember having PPI (if you did), it has to have been mis-sold to you. If you complain you didn't know you had PPI, then the Bank will point to documentation that shows you did know at the time.0 -
good information here. I honestly thought I would never had paid and PPI on car finance, credit cards and loans I've had over the past few years because I always declined it but after reading this I'm going to have a solid look into it.
Thanks!0 -
If you always declined PPI then I can't see any reason why you might have it, to be honest. It's a myth sponsored by claim companies that PPI was added randomly without the knowledge and permission of the customer.Fran.Guester wrote: »I honestly thought I would never had paid and PPI on car finance, credit cards and loans I've had over the past few years because I always declined it
Having said all that, it's worth checking if for nothing else than peace of mind.0 -
Thanks to all those who have replied to this post. It's difficult to recall, but I don't remember seeing such PPI entries on my statements but will go back and check.0
