Hi folks....Looking for some advice. I wanted to set up a wireless network for my hotel guests to use free of charge.I took some advice but baulked at the costs requested by the companies. Fortunately, one of them had written a spec which gave me a list of equipment.I bought a Netgear DG834G wireless ADSL2+ modem router. This gave great coverage...except for 2 rooms furthest away (not bad for a Victorian building). I bought a Netgear Prosafe 802.11g wireless access point WG102. to boost the signal. However, there is a high drop off rate..and the signal varies from good to low causing problems. It seems that the answer is to buy more access points (company recomended 3 or 4 aps.) Another answer I have been given is to run an ethernet cable to the access point, which would maintain the signal strenth. My main question is if I want to operate 2 or 3 access points ..should I buy a hub or switch and does it have to be Netgear or will another make be ok? Is the advice correct that an ethernet network to the access points will be much more stable and deliver the type of network that my guests would expect. Thanks

The router in question has multiple network ports on it so make use of them, you can connect up to 4 devices via a wired connection be it 4 printers, 4 access points 4 PC's whatever or any combination of them all.
as for buying all netgear? I wouldnt have bought netgear in the firstplace after bad experiances in the past with stupid unfixable problems that netgear were not insterested in fixing anyway you don't need to buy all netgear but as you have already configured 1 netgear router you should find it simple to configure their access points so I would go for the same kit just for simplicity.
Don't forget to make the network seperate from your personal network you dont want people acecessing your stuff people will snoop arround I know I do.0 -
Little John...thanks for your advice. By the way the Access point I've got was a real pain to configure...but now it's working the others should be a piece of cake (famous last words !!!)..If you ever come and stay at my hotel...let me know and i'll double check my security !!!!:T0
