Double glazing quote minefield

Hello I'm new ! ( to MSE & the minefield that is choosing double glazing ! ) Please could I pick your brains ! <grin>
We are looking to have our windows replaced they are currently aluminium frames to white UPVC. I've had a few quotes but would like to hear peoples comments as I want to make the right decision and its the first time we've had any work done ( its very long overdue ! )

Living Room 1900mm x 1200 mm h

Price is irrelevant if the installation is poorly executed, do some homework on the companies, ask to see other installations in the area, what's their after sales service like? fensa/Certass certification?
Guarantees?
The prices given are reasonable, small local companies will be competitive try a few of these

These are all small local companies - I didn't get quotes from the big national companies after hearing lots of scary stories !

Three of the companies have been vetted by No Rouge Traders Here so they have been vetted by Trading Standards.

Hmmm i'm still not sure what to do as the prices are so much more than I expected. I've compared some new quotes with quotes I had in nov 11 and there is an increase of 47% and 55% :eek: Now I was expecting an increase obviously but not that much !

They may just be trying it on, if you approach them and say you've had better offers elsewhere but you'd like to see what they can do, you may be surprised at how much flexibility there is.

You'll need to be firm and make them believe they're about to lose you to a competitor.

you have been given a fair price, I couldn't buy the windows and doors for the 47% less price that you mention!!

If you don't ask you don't get, go back to them and see if they come down. I am replacing a couple of windows again as I wanted to install a bifold dr and made a new hole for a new window. The company I am using first quoted £3200 then I asked for some more discount and they came back with £3000 and I feel I've had a good deal. I'm happy with the product and the company so the price is 3rd on the list if that makes sense. If your happy with the company and have heard good things about them then its better to pay a bit more for piece of mind. As they say "You get what you pay for"
