Boiler in garage

Perhaps some will keep the heat exchanger primed, but mine certainly doesn't (Baxi Duotec). When you look at the size of the heat exchangers in modern combis, they don't take much heating - very thin plates to transfer heat. The only time mine runs without demand is if there's been no demand for 7 days, to prevent the pump from seizing up, and then only the pump runs.A Combi will come on even more often, and will do so even in the middle of summer, even when installed inside a house as it has to deliver almost-instant hot water and can't do this from cold.Could HAVE. Should HAVE. Would HAVE. Not OF.0 -
My boiler (oil) was installed in the garage. It kept coming on even when the timer was off. When I checked the frost stat it was set at 20C.
My plumbers were not particularly bright, but they seem to have got the wrong idea about how thermostats work...0 -
Do you have a frost stat AND a pipe stat? The frost stat kicks the boiler in at approx 5 deg or whatever it is set to (some are adjustable by removing the front) and then the pipe stat, which is clipped to the heating pipe, will be set to around 20 degrees - when this satisfies the boiler will shut off again. Without the pipe stat, it may be heating until the room reaches temperature, which could take a long time if it's dependant on the heat from the boiler and pipes alone (and condensing boilers do not emit any heat from the case unlike old style boilers). Just a thought.0

I really am grateful to all who offered suggestions, some of which we had discussed at home (insulating garage better, and new garage doors). I do wonder what the frost sta should be set at but I always ask the engineer to check when they service the boiler. thanks again.
