Income support and prescription

Hi,
I know that when you are on Income support, you are entitled to free prescriptions, dental treatment etc, but i'm just wondering how you prove it when you go to the Dentist or chemist.
I have read somewhere that you have to take your letter saying you are on Income support. Is this true or do you do something else.
Thanks in advance for any help.

You can take a letter saying your on income support, -
Prescriptions - I personaly tick the relevant box and fill in details NI etc - there is a box on the front that the pharmacy can tick to say they have not seen relevant proof.
Dentist - The first time I took in letter, then they took NI details etc - now they just ask are you still on IS / ESA etc.
It is a trust exercise, but I am sure they get checked so they would know if anyone was cheating xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
They do check, yes. I've never been asked for a letter of entitlement and did once go to show the letter and was told "we don't need to see that".Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

It's definitely double checked against your NI number - there have been a few cases reported on these boards and elsewhere where people on contributions based JSA have mistakenly ticked the box and got free prescriptions / dental treatment (which is only automatic for income-based JSA) and later got a letter asking for the cost0 -
I can't claim for things such as dental treatment etc. but when I go to the dentist, people who have exemption from charges are asked to produce their entitlement letter. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
ive never been asked for proof when getting a prescription , but my sentist wants proof at every visit ( just the award letter.
i am mod way through a course of treatment ( if you are entitled to dental cost at the start of a course of treatment, it remains free until that treatment is completed even if curcumstanced change) but the still as me for proof... evemn though i am going every week.
i think some dentists are just more picky than others0
